Our intention

Underley Garden School Children's Home are intending to form a Young Peoples Group. Please read the following on what this will mean.

We  Intend to:
a) Provide the Children and Young People with the opportunity to influence key decision making which affects them.
b) Provide feedback to key stakeholders on real issues which effect the experience of residential care.
c) Provide opportunities for Children and Young People to broaden their experiences, social network and opportunities.
d) Share good practise within our Group, in respect to "CYP Voice" and the importance of it's influence to provide quality Outcomes for Children and Young People.
e) And most importantly provide opportunities for socialisation / fun and establishing lasting friendships.

Our Aim: Over time we would like to think we could represent to key people the importance of the Children and Young Peoples experiences of residential care in an informative way, which may in the future develop into a National Voice of Children in independent care.

How? Firstly due to the Capacity and Learning Needs of many of our CYP we will support an agenda to sculpt and direct the Group to key topics they may wish to discuss, consider and explore. We intend to let the project evolve organically from feedback from Children and Young People over time. These issues may include feeding back to key people about how CYP could be involved in recruitment and Selection and how they can advocate for themselves in key decision about their lives....

When and Where? We would like to invite 2 Young People from each residential Care setting from each of our sister schools and homes to Manchester in mid January, accompanied by a Representative from their residential setting. We will meet for one hour to discuss our aims with the Young People and staff followed by a group activity in Manchester to which we will feedback soon. Please post your response on this site below this blog, and we will confirm a time and venue shortly.

Kind regards Robbie Burke Registered Manager, Underley Garden School.
